Distribution comparison
OpenStays compared with online travel agencies
OpenStays and online travel agencies use different distribution models. OpenStays makes owner-approved property facts available to AI travel agents, then sends interested guests to the owner or agency booking route.
An online travel agency operates a central marketplace and usually controls more of the search, communication or booking journey.
Fees and the guest relationship
- ✓OpenStays charges no listing fee and 0% booking commission.
- ✓OpenStays does not process bookings or payments.
- ✓Guests use the owner or agency booking route shown on the Property Passport.
- ✓OTA fees, controls and booking terms vary by platform and plan.
Control and portability
An OpenStays Property Passport is owner-controlled and portable. Owners can edit it, unpublish it and publish it again as the property changes.
OpenStays is not a merchant of record, property manager, booking agent or guarantee. Owners remain responsible for accurate property facts and their direct booking arrangements.
Do you need to choose only one?
You can use OpenStays alongside other distribution channels. A Property Passport adds an open, AI-readable route to your owned website; it does not require you to remove other listings.
The practical difference is control: OpenStays directs the relationship back to your approved route rather than creating another booking intermediary.
